One way to turn things “steamy” is to have some romance in the kitchen. We all know to “kiss the cook”, right? Allow food to be a part of your love life. It will add on playfulness and silliness to your relationship and it will create fun memories for the future.

Instead of going out to eat, find a recipe for you to cook or bake together. You can get creative and surprise your loved one with a matching set of aprons, or play your favorite music in the background as you prep the food. Turn the routine of simply putting food on a plate into a little culinary love-affair.

Almost all of us are tired after a long work day and we may not always feel like cooking a three course meal. You can still prepare a delicious dinner and have time for a dessert. Find out your favorite foods and go shopping for groceries the day before or if you can, during your lunch break. That way you will know what is coming and you can start looking forward to the evening. You can make a colorful salad in a matter of minutes… fish is also very quick to prepare. I find it helpful to have multiple smaller meals – cheese plate, fresh fruits such as grapes, strawberries… good bread and butter… fresh arugula salad, glass of wine and voilà! Light some candles, put fresh flowers in a vase and enjoy each other’s company.

Chocolates are not just for Valentine’s Day! Don’t feel guilty, a good quality chocolate with high percentage of cocoa, is actually beneficial to your health and helps with digesting. If you want something fancier, you can find a local bakery that serves pastries or mini-cakes, such as Whole Foods, eatZi’s or French bakeries and bring some home with you. Ultimately, you want to create a loving atmosphere with the help of good food. So, go put on your apron and bring on the romance!

If you are not in a relationship, you can invite your friends over and have some fun time while cooking or baking as well! Just make sure that if you’re cooking with wine, the wine actually makes it into the dish.
